Explosive new documentary spotlighting sex abuse against Hollywood's child stars is set to reveal names of 'molesters'
An explosive documentary debuting at a New York film festival on Friday is set to name a list of men who have allegedly sexually abused minors in Hollywood.
An Open Secret, a documentary by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg, will screen at the DOC NYC festival on November 14, the Hollywood Reporter revealed.
It features interviews with men who say they were sexually abused or exploited by Hollywood agents or movie bigwigs when they were children.
Among the men named are managers Marty Weiss, Michael Harrah and Bob Villard - Leonardo DiCaprio's former agent - and internet company owners Marc Collins-Rector and Chad Shackley.
Collins-Rector and Shackley hit headlines earlier this year after former child model Micheal Egan III sensationally accused X-Men director Bryan Singer of abusing him at pool parties held by the duo.
Egan was working with Berg on the then-unnamed documentary.
Egan ultimately dropped his suits against Singer and three others, TV exec Garth Ancier, former Disney exec David Neuman and producer Gary Goddard, after it emerged that some of his statements had been inconsistent.
An attorney for Bryan Singer also hit out at Berg, questioning why Egan's allegations were included, calling the decision to use someone with 'no credibility at all' 'disappointing and pathetic'.
Despite this, Berg, who worked on the documentary for two years, said that she believes Egan is a credible, valid part of her film.
'The question is, if you are an adult at one of these parties where so much is going on out in the open, what is your responsibility?' she told Hollywood Reporter, adding that his story was not unique.
Egan's account is 'only one aspect of the story. It's a much greater issue. When you meet the victims and see how prevalent this problem is, it's difficult to ignore.'
Her film looks at, in part, internet company Digital Entertainment Network, which was led by Collins-Rector and Chad Shackley, who held the alcohol-fueled parties attended by teen boys.
Rector-Collins was jailed in 2004 after pleading guilty to transporting minors across state lines to have sex with them. He was last believed to be in the Dominican Republic and renounced his American citizenship in 2011.
The film also looks at Marty Weiss, who pleaded no contest in 2012 to two counts of committing lewd acts on a child after he was charged with molesting a young performer he represented.
His alleged victim told police in 2011 that he had sex with Weiss 30 to 40 times and the abuse ended when he turned 15 years old.
Weiss is seen in Berg's film attending family meetings with one of his victims and is heard on tape admitting to molesting the child, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film also names Bob Villard, who represented Leonardo DiCaprio when he was a boy, who pleaded no contest to a felony charge in 2005 after he allegedly sold lewd pictures of boys on eBay.
Michael Harrah, a talent manager, is also accused in the film of having young boys stay with him in his home and of attempting to take at least one of them to bed.
In response, Harrah told The Hollywood Reporter: 'It's hard to respond to anything that is so nebulous.'
In a clip of the movie previously shared with Elle, one former child actor talks about the abuse he suffered at the hands of one of the men.
Berg explains that the clip 'depicts a former actor whose childhood dreams were destroyed by one man and covered up by the film industry... At 11 years old, he was forced to abandon his dreams and suffer the trauma of being abused.'
The alleged victim describes how the man would take him back to his house and tell him to take off his clothes so he could look at him. The man would also abuse the boy in his home movie theater.
'My memories are of me just sitting in there and being scared,' the now-adult victim recounted. 'We would sit in there and we would watch something, and then he would talk to me while he was doing it and say, "This is nothing to worry about, don't be scared, it's completely normal".
'I remember being scared, and I remember him saying, "come on think about a girl you really like".'
Berg, 44, is best known for her 2006 Oscar-nominated documentary Deliver Us From Evil, which looks ay abuse cases in the Roman Catholic Church. It focuses on Oliver O'Grady, who abused many children in California in the late 1970s and early 1990s.
After its success, she was approached by Matthew Valentinas, a Boston entertainment attorney, and hedge fund manager Alan Hoffman, about making the film about sexual abuse in Hollywood.
They pursued the project after listening to interviews where actor Corey Feldman spoke of abuse.
'We chose Amy because we didn't want it to be exploitative or tabloid,' Valentinas said. 'We wanted it to be empowering for the victims.'
And despite the criticisms from some of the men named in the documentary and their attorneys, Berg said she quickly learned that the alleged victims' stories needed to be heard and shared.
'They were all struggling with the same thing: trying to move on 10 years after the fact,' she said.
'I think this was healing for many of them. They also felt that there was a threat to other children, and that was another reason they wanted to speak.'

A major Hollywood producer is planning to spill the beans about his double life as an arms dealer and Israeli intelligence operative in the late 1970s.
Arnon Milchan, the Israeli producer of smash hits including Fight Club and Pretty Woman, is opening up for the first time ever in an Israeli TV show on Monday to speak about his involvement in clandestine deals to acquire arms for Israel and his work to promote the country's alleged nuclear program.
Russell Crowe, Robert De Niro, Ben Affleck and other major Hollywood players are also featured in the controversial report to be aired on Israel’s Channel 2.
The film tycoon spoke to Israeli investigative journalist Ilana Dayan for the season premiere of her current affairs show, Uvda.
In the interview he tells her how he tried to engage Hollywood colleagues in his work for Israel's Defense Ministry, according to Haaretz.
He claims he managed to convince other Hollywood bigwigs, including the late director Sydney Pollack, to get involved.

Pollack, who died in 2008, acquired arms and other military equipment for Israel in the 1970s, reveals Milchan in the TV report.
Pollack knew of the details of the deals, says Milchan, who adds that he ‘didn't want to scare him because he's American… He could have said "no". He said "no" many times, but he also said "yes" many times’.
Milchan also says he used at least one big-name actor's star quality to lure US scientist Arthur Biehl – an expert on nuclear weapons and a co-developer of the hydrogen bomb – to a meeting.
Milchan invited Biehl to the actor's home under the pretence the actor was seeking scientific advice for a project he was working on.
Milchan expected Biehl to cooperate because, ‘Anyone who lives in California is a star-f*****… They hear "star"…they come running,’ he said.
But he says life wasn’t always so easy, according to Haaretz.
‘In Hollywood they don’t like working with an arms dealer, ideologically, with someone who lives off selling machine guns and killing.
‘Instead of someone talking to me about a script, I had to spend half an hour explaining that I'm not an arms dealer,’ says Milchan.
De Niro was asked if he knew what was going on at the time, and he said he did.
'I did ask him once, we spoke about something, he told me that he was an Israeli and that he of course would do these things for his country.
'I remember at some point, I had asked Arnon about that, being friends I was curious, but not in an accusatory way, I just wanted to know.
'He gave me that answer and I accepted it,' said De Niro.
‘If people knew how many times I risked my life, back and forth, again and again, for my country. And suddenly, [I have to] defend myself – "I'm not an arms dealer, I don't sell guns, I don't sell rockets". I should have been aware of that, of what I'll go through, and said, "F*** you". You know what, I did it for my country and I'm proud of it.’
This isn’t the first time Milchan's role in Israeli arms dealings and intelligence has surfaced.
Two years ago, a book titled Confidential: The Life of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon Arnon Milchan, was published by authors Meir Doron and Joseph Gelman.
The book alleged that Milchan was an operative for Israel's Bureau of Scientific Relations, which gathered information for Israel's alleged nuclear program.
The bureau was closed after Jonathan Pollard was arrested for spying on behalf of Israel in 1986.
Milchan is still making movies, and his company, New Regency films, is working on four films slated for release in 2013-14.
One of those is Noah, a Darren Aronofsky-directed take on the Biblical flood story starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins.

Our personal experience of Russell was through his Channel 4 appearances and we saw a sensitive eloquent man who despite a nightmarish childhood used his unique talent to provide him with the fame and fortune he well deserves. Russell deserves every penny of his money due to his hard work so he can afford to live a decent life if people are prepared to pay to see him perform. No one should envy someone with a unique talent that doesn't forget his roots and he DOESN'T push his wealth down the throat of the public. While many comedians live of off bullying an audience Russell has a way of poking fun at an audience without them ever feeling under attack we have seen this time and again during his warm up before his Channel 4 shows and before his Hollywood break.

I don’t vote because to me it seems like a tacit act of compliance; I know, I know my grandparents fought in two world wars (and one World Cup) so that I’d have the right to vote. Well, they were conned. As far as I’m concerned there is nothing to vote for. I feel it is a far more potent political act to completely renounce the current paradigm than to participate in even the most trivial and tokenistic manner, by obediently X-ing a little box.
Total revolution of consciousness and our entire social, political and economic system is what interests me, but that’s not on the ballot. Is utopian revolution possible? The freethinking social architect Buckminster Fuller said humanity now faces a choice: oblivion or utopia. We’re inertly ambling towards oblivion, is utopia really an option?

Hear you this, regular New Statesman reader, browsing with irritation that the culture of celebrity has just banjoed the arse of another sacred cow and a Halloween-haired, Sachsgate-enacting, estuary-whining, glitter-lacquered, priapic berk has been undeservedly hoisted upon another cultural plinth, but – young people, poor people, not-rich people, most people do not give a fuck about politics.
They see no difference between Cameron, Clegg, Boris, either of the Milibands or anyone else. To them these names are as obsolete as Lord Palmerston or Denis Healey. The London riots in 2011, which were condemned as nihilistic and materialistic by Boris and Cameron (when they eventually returned from their holidays), were by that very definition political. These young people have been accidentally marketed to their whole lives without the economic means to participate in the carnival. After some draconian sentences were issued, measures that the white-collar criminals who capsized our economy with their greed a few years earlier avoided, and not one hoodie was hugged, the compliance resumed. Apathy reigned.
There’s little point bemoaning this apathy. Apathy is a rational reaction to a system that no longer represents, hears or addresses the vast majority of people. A system that is apathetic, in fact, to the needs of the people it was designed to serve. To me a potent and triumphant leftist movement, aside from the glorious Occupy rumble, is a faint, idealistic whisper from sepia rebels. The formation of the NHS, holiday pay, sick pay, the weekend – achievements of peaceful trade union action were not achieved in the lifetime of the directionless London rioters. They are uninformed of the left’s great legacy as it is dismantled around them.
Of the two possible reactions to the mechanised indifference and inefficiency of their alleged servants, not leaders – apathy or rage – apathy is the more accessible and is certainly preferable to those who govern.
Righteous rage surfaces rarely only in the most galling of circumstances, the riots or the Milly Dowler intrusion, where a basic taboo was transgressed, then we reach beneath the stagnant quotidian to the omnipresent truth within. In this case “respect for the dead”, the motif upon which Sophocles’s Antigone is founded.
Along with the absolute, all-encompassing total corruption of our political agencies by big business, this apathy is the biggest obstacle to change. We can’t alter the former without removing the latter. Can this be achieved? Obviously this is a rhetorical question and without wanting to spunk the surprise ending the answer is yes.
First, though, I should qualify my right to even pontificate on such a topic and in so doing untangle another of revolution’s inherent problems. Hypocrisy. How dare I, from my velvet chaise longue, in my Hollywood home like Kubla Khan, drag my limbs from my harem to moan about the system? A system that has posited me on a lilo made of thighs in an ocean filled with honey and foie gras’d my Essex arse with undue praise and money.

This means that many stars do not speak out because they literally cannot do so. Alison, who told of her ordeal in her book Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, said:

Mary, 50, who detailed the danger to child stars in her own book Lessons From The Mountain, told The Sun: "There are a lot of predators out there.
"There was a crew member who made me kiss him every day when I was 11 and a director who stuck his tongue down my throat the minute I turned 18. It was very creepy."
They spoke out after child talent manager Martin Weiss, 47, who provided kids for Disney shows, was accused of eight sex charges.
Last month Sesame Street composer Fernando Rivas, 59, appeared in court over child porn.
And casting agent Jason James Murphy, 35, was exposed as having been convicted of kidnapping and molesting an eight-year-old boy.
Former child actor Corey Feldman, 40, revealed earlier this year he was also abused, saying predators were "everywhere like vultures".
He is now preparing to speak to Los Angeles cops about bringing the culprits to justice decades later.

Actor Corey Feldman has sensationally claimed that his Lost Boys co-star Corey Haim was the victim of a paedophile who was also a Hollywood mogul.

In a special report, 'Underage And Famous' for ABC's Nightline show, Feldman blamed former co-star Corey Haim's death at the age 38 on the abuse he suffered at the hands of a 'Hollywood mogul' he refused to name.
The 40-year-old former child star said that paedophiles were 'like vultures' in the entertainment industry and alleged that the 'casting couch' even applies to children.
The pair were two the Eighties biggest child stars, alongside River Phoenix, and in addition to The Lost Boys, Feldman starred in iconic eighties movies The Goonies, Stand By Me and The 'Burbs.
He told Nightline: 'The number one problem in Hollywood was, is and always will be paedophilia," he said.
'It's all done under the radar... But it's the big secret.'
'There was a circle of older men that surrounded themselves around this group of kids. And they they had power or connections to great power in the industry.
'I was surrounded by them when I was 14 and I didnt even know it. It was only when I was old enough to know what they were.
'They all had either their own power, or connections to great power in the entertainment industry.'
In 2008, the pair who confronted each other on their reality show, The Two Coreys. Haim said to Feldman: 'You let me get f***** around in my life, raped, when I was about 14 and a half.
'So I'm asking you, what did you do when you saw that s*** going down?'
To which Feldman responded: 'I was being molested at the same time... what did you do about it?'
The 40-year-old previously revealed in an interview with GQ that he was molested by his assistant as a child.
Feldman says he believes the trauma of the abuse affected Haim for the rest of his short life. He died last year aged 38.
He said: 'The person that knows who did it and knows who he is is watching right now I guarantee it.
'There's a lot of good people in this industry and there's a lot of really, really sick corrupt people in this industry.
'And there are people that have got away with it for so long that they think there above the law and that's got to stop.'
Feldman, who married wife Susie on a reality show in 2002, said that he would not put is son, Zen, seven in movies.
He is also one of very few stars who won't allow his child to be photographed on the red carpet.
Haim's mother was contacted for comment but told Nightline she refused to respond to anything Feldman had to say. She added she wished he would only talk about himself.
Feldman was not invited to the funeral of his former co-star.
While his career has not reached the stellar heights of his child actor years, he recently starred alongside 80's pop star Debbie Gibson as Kathy Beth Terry's parents, Katy Perry's alter-ego in her Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) video.
